BTSCF Newsletter - August 2022
The summer is coming to an end and the kids are heading back to school. What does that mean? The opportunity to return to routines. Vacations, Summer Camps, and anything else the summer throws your way can alter your routines. Now is a great time to look at what your routine looked like before the summer. Did it work for you? Great, time to get back to it. Are there things that could make them better? You can make those changes. Check out BTSCF this month…
Foundational Movement Series
Earlier this month we introduced the first post in a series with a focus on CrossFit’s Foundational Movements. Each of these posts will break down the points of performance and common movement flaws. These are the things our coaching staff look for to help you move better and more consistently.
Our first post was focused on The Air Squat. If you missed it, you can check it out here.
Keep an eye out for more posts in the Foundational Movement Series.
PJ Stone Challenge 4
It’s back! The Port Jervis Stone Challenge will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2022. What is the PJ Stone Challenge? It’s a race. It’s a test. It’s a lot of fun. Simply put, you choose a stone, any stone. Decorate your stone so you can identify it in a pile of other stones. Your stone will be placed at the bottom of the mountain. You’ll run down the mountain, retrieve your stone and bring it back up to the top.
Are you convinced? Yes? Great, click here to sign up. Still not sure? That’s ok, click here to sign up, or click here to get more information.
End of Summer…What Does That Mean?
It means you should keep an eye out for our new Fall T-Shirt and Hoodie Colorway drop. As always, we will take preorders at the front desk. What color will it be? You’ll find out soon!

When did you start CrossFitting?
5/12/22 at BTSCF
What brought you to CrossFit?
I'm someone that needs group fitness, I've been to several gyms and although I loved them all, I was still looking for something "more".
What have you learned from doing CrossFit?
I've learned that on a random Tuesday, before work, I'm able to complete a 5k.
What would you say to someone who is on the fence about starting CrossFit?
Just do it, you will not be disappointed and you are WORTH it!! Don't question your athletic ability, as there are modifications for everything, and every athlete there is at a different level. I feel in very good hands with all the trainers at BTSCF, they are knowledgeable, patient, and great motivators!!
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to cook & entertain.
What do you do for work and how has CrossFit impacted how you do your job?
I work at our family business (Tri-State Auto Body), and I'm not sure, I guess I don't have to ask for help when picking up heavier parts. I've also been a bartendar for 30+ years, (in retirement at the moment), but I would bet that I could easily carry 2 cases of beer upstairs, no problem now. lol (it used to be a struggle)
We threw some rapid fire questions at Wendy, here is what she had to say:
Q: What super power would you give yourself?
A: The power to be invisible.
Q: What's your favorite healthy food?
A: I have to pick one?? ugh, so hard, hmmmm tomatoes still warm from the garden with nice flakey salt, eaten like an apple.
Q: What's your favorite not so healthy food?
A: Again, just one? geez....... Poutine
Q: What TV Sitcom family or group would you be a member of?
A: Shameless
Q: If you were famous, what would you be famous for?
A: World class mixology. lol
Q: If you could write your own fortune cookie fortune, what would it say?
A: "Every little thing is going to be alright". & "We're all in this together"
Q: If you were a professional wrestler, what would you finishing move be called?
A: "Run & Hide" (totally not a fighter)
Q: Who do you look up to for inspiration at BTSCF?
A: OMG! Everyone! Every day this mixed group of people come together and for that brief moment in time, despite all our differences, we all share one common goal, to get thru the day's WOD, and that for me is a pretty cool, inspiring experience.
Q: What is your favorite and least favorite movement?
A: Favorite~ kettle bell swings. Least~anything that involves that @&%$# bar!!
Q: What is the one thing you've done at BTSCF that your old self wouldn't ever believe?
A: Complete a 5K on a random Tuesday.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: I'd like to share that I am a complete "newbie" to crossfit, I really enjoy it and am blessed and thankful that my body allows be to do it. I look foward to growing stronger with every WOD and can't wait to see my progress.
