November Sleep Challenge
Sleep is vital to overall health and wellbeing. We are challenging our members to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night for the entire month of November. Sleep time can be tracked by a number of different devices. Don’t have a device? No problem. Since everyone has time during their sleep where they wake up, it is typically recommended to try to sleep for one extra hour than the amount of sleep you are aiming to get. Since the goal for this challenge is 7 hours of sleep, another way to track without a device is to dedicate 8 hours in bed to sleep. That means 8 hours with the lights and electronics off, actively trying to sleep.
4th Annual BTSCF Food Drive
It’s that time of year again. Is it a charitable event to support a local food pantry, or is it an opportunity to punish your coaches? Yes! We are now accepting donations at the gym which will benefit The Holy Trinity Food Pantry. Just bring your shelf stable items and leave them in our lobby. As we’ve done in the past few years, the more items you bring, the more work you’ll make your coaches do. You’ve made each of your coaches do over 500 burpees. You’ve made them bike for 600 calories. Stay tuned to find out which exercise movement you’ll be making them do.
Drop off your donations during the month of November and watch your coaches sweat on December 12th.
Thanksgiving Day Workout
Mark your calendars and be sure to join us on Thanksgiving morning for a workout. THE DECK will make its appearance once again. We work together, share the reps if needed and get in a great workout before heading home to celebrate the holiday.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t take a moment to thank everyone for their support and allowing us to be a part of your journey.
BTSCF Feature Athlete
Meet Cathy Boyson
When did you start CrossFitting?
April 3, 2019 here at BTSCF.
What brought you to CrossFit?
I wanted to up my workouts to get my A1C down, lose weight, and get fit.
What have you learned from doing CrossFit?
That I am capable of doing the workouts, and learning about the patience and perseverance to get there.
What would you say to someone who is on the fence about starting CrossFit?
Come and give yourself at least 6 months to see how you have improved, because believe me, you will definitely improve! Especially at BTS, it is welcoming and very supportive.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to spend time with my family and sometimes binge watch a show. I also like to hike and kayak.
What do you do for work and how has CrossFit impacted how you do your job?
I am an Income Maintenance Caseworker for Department of Public Welfare. CrossFit has helped me with stress. It helps me get through the day when I know I am going to the gym. It is a lifeline.
We put Cathy through the lightning round. Here’s what she had to say:
Q: What super power would you give yourself?
A: Invisibility
Q: What's your favorite healthy food?
A: Salad
Q: What's your favorite not so healthy food?
A: Fried Chicken
Q: What TV Sitcom family or group would you be a member of?
A: Modern Family or Seinfeld
Q: If you were famous, what would you be famous for?
A: Being a mensch.
Q: If you could write your own fortune cookie fortune, what would it say?
A: Be kind, treat people like you want to be treated. Or….Help, I am being held captive in a fortune cookie factory!
Q: If you were a professional wrestler, what would you finishing move be called?
A: The TURBO
Q: Who do you look up to for inspiration at BTSCF?
A: This is a tough one because there is no one person. All of the COACHES are FABULOUS. They all give encouragement and support, and they know how and when to push you. They are so attentive as well, you never feel like you are going it alone. As far as the members, everyone is so nice and supportive. It is truly a community that I’m proud to say I am a part of.
Q: What is your favorite and least favorite movement?
A: My favorite is the deadlift. Least favorite, I’m not sure of the name but it is definitely one of the overhead lifts.
Q: What is the one thing you've done at BTSCF that your old self wouldn't ever believe?
A: Run! Now I like to run. When I started, I could not believe I could not even complete 200 meters without walking. Now I feel confident I can run and hope to just keep getting better at it.
Q: Anything else you want to share?
A: I have said many times that BTS is a great gym with a wonderful community. When I started, Mike would post the next day’s workout at 2000 hours and I would be so excited to get the WOD. A lot of times I couldn’t sleep I was so excited. It may sound silly but it’s true. I wish I would have started CrossFit earlier in my life but am certainly glad I took the plunge and started when I did. My A1C has come down. I have dropped some weight and I hope to drop more. Looking forward, I would like to strengthen my core and get my back banging and of course, get a d*** Toes to Bar. I am grateful, honored, humbled, and surprised for the honor of Athlete of the Month. They love me….they really love me! :)
